Jess began his brewing career in 1995 at Treaty Grounds Brew Pub in Moscow, Idaho while finishing up his Bachelors of Science degree in Microbiology at the University of Idaho.   In 1997 he moved back to his home state of Oregon to brew at Elliot Glacier Public House (now Solera Brewing).  After a few years of brewing on 7 barrel systems, he moved to a larger system at Full Sail Brewing where he worked as a production brewer for 3 and a half years.  In 2002 Jess moved to Wyeast Laboratories to produce wort and run the large scale yeast propagations, worked in the lab to perform quality control and research, and finally worked behind a desk offering technical support and customer service to brewers around the world.  Jess currently works at Imperial Yeast as the technical support manager, yeast guru and moral support specialist.  He also works at Everybody’s Brewing as an assistant head brewer.  In his spare time, Jess likes to spend time with his wife Cynthia and three children Indigo, Scarlet and Judah.  If there is any time after that, he enjoys working in his glass art studio, skateboarding and partaking in anything slightly ridiculous.
